Nikolay Cranner Drops Moving On EP

Operating out Tønsberg, Norway – Nikolay Cranner returns to action this month after a short hiatus in the studio, a place that he has been busy preparing this latest addition to his swelling discography. Making his debut on Spanish imprint Cientoonce – it’s a bright start to the warmer months for Nikolay who continues to grow his reputation as a reliable Producer of predominantly Deep and Melodic House.

Our lead track ‘Moving On’ shows off a classy and wistful flurry of deep and blissed-out chords and keys from Nikolay’s crafty fingertips. A highly-rhythmic stack of traditional piano tones with a stack of more driven and saturated leads create a hypnotising arpeggiator effect that intertwines in and out of the thudding kick drum and locked on drum sections. The workout is laced with subtle vocal hits and percussive elements in the background which fill the frequency spectrum in the few places that the heavy melodic content isn’t active.

On the flipside we’re given a tasty rework of ‘Moving On’ from Victor Polo who digs further into the sub-frequency domain to swap out the keys as the main attraction and delves more into sub bass impact for his version. It’s a subtle but worthwhile remix which gives the flavour of the original piece plenty of credit, but leans more into the dancefloor fundamentals.

Wrapping up the EP is Nikolay’s second serving ‘Hypnotised’ which leads with a more thudding kick drum and tightly compressed hi-hats and claps. The name is a hint towards the nature of the production as we’re treated to a trippy and meditative synth workout that sprawls up and down a whirling tune that is mostly uninterrupted. The deep bass swells compliment the low octave piano chords and deliver that signature Nikolay Cranner sound in spades whilst offering a slightly different vibe to the lead track.

Nikolay continues to impress and develop both in stature and sonic depth as he hones in on his signature sound and with a busy summer season ahead, we can be sure that this is just another step on the track for this progressively developing talent.
