At Dawn & Johnatron Drop ‘Recursion EP’
‘Recursion’ is a special release that combines the guitar skills and House style of Routine Espresso boss At Dawn with the 80’s leaning style of Johnatron. The release is the 15th official release by label Routine Espresso Recordings and breaks away from the music they normally release into a new and exciting territory.
Kicking off with crackling vinyl FX to set the tone, ‘Recursion’ swells with a hypnotic and analogue-inspired compilation of beautifully flowing arpeggiators and bass that holds the timing for the steady drum groove. The variety comes in the shape of the sultry vocal which has been beautifully processed and creatively de-graded to compliment the spirit of the track. Lashings of electric guitar leads spray over the top of the electronic elements, hands joined with the vocal to offer the perfect human counterpoint to a track that blends the electronic with the man-made elements perfectly to give that contrasting vibe that melds together the spirit of the 80s with the man-machine hybrid narrative of the future.
At Dawn has been only been making electronic music since 2017, but has always played in numerous bands and has been making indie music for many years. His love for House and caffeine fuelled music prompted him to begin creating his own and eventually to start his label. He tries to incorporate his “Tele Thinline” into as many tracks as he can and Recursion is the pinnacle of this melding of various genres into a new but familiar sound. Combined with Johnatron’s affinity for 80’s aesthetics and you get a perfect fit.
Routine Espresso is based in Sacramento, CA and prides itself on being an up-and-coming label in an up-and-coming city blossoming with potential. The label has released music from Qrion (Anjunadeep) to many underground names all in the name of one simple slogan….Music + Coffee = Love.
