Piano & Specs New Release ‘Good For Nothing’

Piano & Specs have been busy over recent months and years carving out a style of House that harks back to the golden years of the UK’s rave and early House music styles whilst retaining and forward-thinking energy that fuses the class and freedom of those classic eras with a 2020 flavour. On the back of a string of remixes and what you might call refinement of their signature production ethics, this latest release on My Digital Enemy’s ever-present Zulu Records marks a step forward for the duo as they move into the realms of fully-fledged original records. When Piano & Specs remix, it’s not what you might expect. They have developed a signature remix style that fuses together multiple elements from more than one track, so you could easily end up hearing reworked stems from up to 4 different tracks – all reimagined to become something new.

‘Good For Nothing’ doesn’t waste any time in letting you know what the story is going to be for Piano & Specs as you’re hit with a flurry of glorious throwback House piano chords, breakbeats and pitched down vocals which take you right back to the “good old days”. The theme takes a further plunge into the rave era as a lead of classic stabs rings out a tune and adds yet more throwback nostalgia to the mixing pot.

It’s a big step up for Piano & Specs as they shift attention from their excellent remixes to a more traditional path into original productions, but the fact that an imprint with the stride of Zulu Records has snapped them up this quickly says a lot about what the months and years ahead will look like for this exciting duo if this journey is played out with the intensity and quality that the first chapters of 2020 have delivered. ‘Good For Nothing’ came in at #01 on Beatport’s ‘Best New Hype House: April’ chart, setting the benchmark for what is sure to be a powerful period ahead for Piano & Specs.
